Institute of Technical Education Education Services chief executive Bruce Poh recently commented that the technical and vocational education and training system needs to be more adaptive, and must evolve to better train students to be more resilient to changes.
Students who graduate today have to contend with a rapidly changing Singapore economy which has seen a rapid influx of foreign labour, as well as disruptive influences due to the emergence of new technologies and new business models.
Mr Poh was speaking on the sidelines of the Temasek Foundation International @10 Asia Skills Leaders Forum 2017 held at the ITE Headquarters and College Central. Policymakers and leaders from 16 countries attended the four-day forum on technical education and training.
Mr Poh said Singapore has achieved an “unprecedented success” in developing its technical education system, and can share its know-how with other countries. He added that the forum, organised by the ITE Education Services and Temasek Foundation International, serves as a platform for delegates to share best practices.
