Thirty one students taking a Master of Business Administration programme jointly offered by the Singapore Management University and IE Business school, a renowned graduate school headquartered in Madrid, Spain, will have their grades for two courses revised. The courses in question are corporate finance and operations management.
The possible grade revision is due to the discovery that some students had an unfair advantage during the online examinations in the abovementioned courses. It was found that some students could easily buy test banks of questions and answers, which are not supposed to be accessible except to instructors, and that certain questions in the online exam were identical to the test bank questions.
For the corporate finance course, both IE and SMU will consider the final exam invalid. Students can choose to sit a new exam, and a make-up class on the subject will be offered prior to it. Those who decide not to take the new exam will have their final grade calculated using only their scores for other components, namely projects and class participation.
For the operations management course, one particular question in the final exam was found to have been extracted from a test bank. Therefore, both institutions have decided to invalidate this question and a new exam grade would be recalculated to omit the invalidated question.
