An annual survey is currently being conducted to understand how Singapore graduates from private schools here perform in the job market. The survey is intended to give an indication of the job prospects of graduates of private schools.
According to SkillsFuture Singapore, which is a statutory board under the Ministry of Education, around 16,000 Singaporeans who attained their degrees last year and in 2015 will be invited to take part in the survey. Participants will be asked about their employment status six months after the completion of their final examinations, including the nature of their jobs and starting salaries.
In a previous survey on a smaller scale, only 58 percent of private school graduates with no prior working experience succeeded in securing full-time jobs within six months of completing their studies. Their median starting salary was found to be around S$2,700 a month. The more established private schools such as the Singapore Institute of Management had graduates that performed better in the job search. As many as 73 percent of SIM graduates had full-time jobs within six months.
It is compulsory for schools running external degree programmes to take part in the annual graduate employment survey conducted by SkillsFuture Singapore. The results are published by the Council of Private Education, a division of SkillsFuture Singapore.
