Six Singapore school teachers have been awarded the Outstanding Youth in Education Award (OYEA) by the Ministry of Education. The OYEA is a national award that recognises young teachers for their dedication and active involvement in youth education.
The awards were presented by Education Minister (Schools) Ng Chee Meng at the first of three National Institute of Education Teachers’ Investiture Ceremonies held recently. Speaking at the award ceremony at Nanyang Technological University’s Nanyang Auditorium, Mr Ng Chee Meng said that teachers have a duty to impart skills that go beyond the subjects that they teach, and students should be encouraged to take risks and be nimble and resilient.
Over 3,800 nominations for the award were received this year.
This year, 1,081 new and returning teachers will also graduate as full-fledged educators.
