Republic Polytechnic has recently built a new studio that will facilitate industry-quality sound design.
The $400,000 facility, which was developed to support students in the sonic arts diploma programme at the polytechnic’s School of Technology for the Arts, contains three rooms where students can produce high-quality everyday sounds suitable for use in movies and broadcast.
A range of props and materials such as walking pits made of concrete, asphalt, gravel, sand, marble and wood, are employed to recreate everyday sounds.
The establishment contains post-production equipment such as industry-grade audio interface and monitoring systems, as well as equipment for recording voice-overs and dialogues.
The studio’s launch last month was attended by Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim.
