Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) Ong Ye Kung has said that there are currently no plans to merge universities and polytechnics, as well as the various campuses of the Institute of Technical Education.
Singapore’s public institutions of higher learning still have the necessary critical mass of student intake to keep functioning.
This is despite projections showing cohort sizes decreasing by around 10 to 15 percent each year for the coming years.
Falling cohort sizes could lead to increases specialization among various institutions which can craft unique curricula, and focus on niche areas.
