Two students from Institute of Technical Education College Central won a Gold Award in the Design Category of the recently held Fifth National Assistive and Rehabilitative Technologies Student Innovation Challenge.
Yi Xiang and Jenson Ting had invented a walking stick that could prevent elderly people from flipping on wet surfaces.
Called the Ely Walking Stick, the stick is designed to vibrate to alert users to wet surfaces, as well as light up in dim conditions.
This year, the student innovation challenge was co-organised by the Rehabilitation Research Institute of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University and the Centre for Health Assistive and Robotic Technologies at Changi General Hospital.
