Singapore-based charity Lotus Life Foundation has established two new initiatives to assist aspiring medical students at the National University of Singapore as well as social entrepreneurs.
The Lotus-NUS Medical Bursary will fund up to four financially needy students from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for each of the next five academic years. The value of the bursary is over $30,000 per student per year.
The Lotus-NUS Fund will provide seed funding for social enterprise start-up projects undertaken by five Singaporean entrepreneurs or Singaporean companies up to the year 2021.
Associate Professor Marie-Veronique Clement, the assistant dean for student affairs (undergraduate studies) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, said that she was very thankful that the bursary covered both students’ living allowances and tuition fees.
