Nanyang Technological University has introduced the Russian language as its latest language elective, in addition to Singapore Sign Language, Arabic and Thai. NTU is currently the only Singapore public university offering such a unique and diverse combination of language courses.

Speaking to NTU students recently, Russian ambassador to Singapore Mr Andrey Tatarinov said that Russia has economic opportunities for those willing to take the risk. He said that Russia needed to deepen cooperation with ASEAN and engage Singapore companies.

The 36-hour introductory Russian course is conducted by Ms Elena Ermilova, 26, who hails from Moscow and who has lived in Singapore for the past five years. She is a graduate of the Moscow State Regional Social Humanitarian University.

Her classes follow an interactive model in which she emphasizes group work.
