SIM University’s students are now able to take on full time permanent employment because the university now runs part-time degree courses for working adults in parallel with its full-time degree programmes.
UniSIM president Cheong Hee Kiat said that if a student secures a full time job midway through the degree course, then the university can allow him or her to switch to evening classes.
UniSIM is also exploring the option of awarding academic credits based on knowledge and skills gained at work.
The university has already made internship a requirement for its full-time degree students, and close to 200 of them have gone on six-month internships.
All students must also complete a work-related project as part of their final year assessment.
