Cedar Girls’ Secondary School has a long and interesting tradition of paying close attention to Track and Field. It is renowned for its consistent excellence at the annual Inter-School Track and Field Championships, as well as incorporating various elements of Track and Field in regular Physical Education (PE) classes for all students.
For example, all students used to go through mandatory jogging sessions during PE, and if you had a Medical Certificate (MC), but were still able to walk, you were expected to walk one round with the teacher.
Nowadays, girls circle the school compound twice during the one to two compulsory jogging periods held every week.
Cedar Girls’ iconic running track, a 400m track originally made of bitumen currently located in a parcel of land behind the school, will make way for the new Bidadari estate when the school’s lease expires at the end of this year.
The school also has a 110m track, which is being extended into a 280m circuit track by June this year.
Caring teachers also played a crucial role in keeping school spirit alive. Seeing that some girls were undernourished, the school to supplement their diet with milk, eggs and multi-vitamins.
