Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said recently that Singapore’s pragmatic approach to education of the past 50 years must evolve even as it remains relevant to today’s nation-building needs.
Mr Goh was speaking at the Global HR Forum 2015 in Seoul when he touched on the importance of education reforms to support the needs of the changing society and economy. Singapore’s educational system has traditionally emphasized bilingualism and economic skills.
ESM Goh described how Singapore has transformed itself into a First World education hub with leading universities and vocational institutions.
Mr Goh also noted that a consistent, long-term education policy can be maintained only in a stable political system like Singapore’s where the same party has ruled for decades.
