This year, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have made impression gains in an annual ranking of the world’s top universities conducted by London-based education consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
But recruitment consultants said graduates from Singapore’s two oldest universities are already highly sought after by employers, and therefore the recent gains may not necessarily drive up their already high employability.
Human resource experts say employers often consider attributes like initiative, teamwork and experience, such as from internships. Possessing a degree from a top-ranked university is but one of many yardsticks.
